I had this mock interview with a medical student for this program that I was in, and I didn't have time to get feedback for all of the questions, but one question she asked was what would profession would I pursue if I couldn't get into medical school, so I said something along the lines of:A major reason why I decided to pursue medicine was to be able to go into academic medicine. I enjoy the prospect of mentoring students in a career in medicine , engaging in research that could potentially improve patient outcomes, and then that humanitarian aspect of it, engaging with patients and building a long term relationship. If I apply to medical school and after multiple cycles it just does not work out for me, I'd likely pursue a field that could still fulfill some aspect of academic medicine, like maybe the college professor route lecturing science courses and engaging in clinical research or perhaps the high school/counseling route because I do enjoy mentoring students and guiding them on their career paths. And then I talked about how I would still be missing X aspect of medicine, but those would be the alternative routes I take.Am I overthinking this question? Is it okay to list alternative career paths like teaching? My application has a huge teaching emphasis, so I wouldn't want them to think that I may be better suited in the teaching profession. via /r/premed https://ift.tt/2IyC2f4
